About this role

Here’s the chance to use your skills by joining an Australian-based start-up, multi-disciplinary team with a global vision and goal to streamline accessibility and interpretability of omics data.

We help our biopharma, biotech and academic customers and the broader proteomics community navigate the world around them by making good business, research-based and science experiment decisions. These decisions shouldn’t be dependent on ad-hoc and time-consuming analysis, instead we want to shift mindsets to make it possible for scientists to have and communicate continuous conversations around their data, at any time and from anywhere.

You will contribute to this vision by:

  • Bringing structure to large quantities of Omics data
  • Coming up with clever ways to make our customer’s lives easier while swimming in data
  • Working instep with the product development team to enrich our services with useful and intelligent insights or interactions
  • Pragmatically applying your love of science and software engineering to solve problems
  • Digesting books, papers, videos to learn about new methods, approaches and tools that can be leveraged to get our customers closer to their end goal

The essential skills you'll bring

Our fabric is based on being lean, pragmatic, user-focused and we opt to create incremental value over brochures.

We think and work fast and smart, and have in place disciplined and automated practices to allow us to write, test, push code and deliver value to our users regularly.

Having the emotional intelligence (EQ) to be able to adapt in this environment will be needed.

Here's a list of the basic skills we'll need you to bring.

  • R and Python proficiency (including RShiny, Plotly, and Streamlit)
  • Knowledge and proven capability of proteomics, genomics or other -omics

What will give you the edge?

Considering the sectors we operate within and the nature of the data that you’re likely to encounter, if you have the basics above, plus experience or deep fascination with any of the following areas, you should stop reading this and contact us asap.

  • Network analysis
  • Mass Spectrometry
  • Biology
  • Application of statistics, machine or deep learning in any of the above areas
  • Working with or bridging between software engineers, biologists, biotechs or academics

Salary and Benefits

  • We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and our broad base salary range of $60K to $140K AUD reflects this.
  • We provide Superannuation of 11% in addition to the base salary range.
Tools of the trade budget - as an alternative to receiving an issued laptop, we provide $1000 to contribute to any machine of your choice, and provide salary sacrifice for the remaining amount. You own it!
  • Opportunity to work remotely. We are a remote team and have solid practices in place to optimize the way we work. For team members who work in Melbourne, we get together on Wednesdays. We allow employees to work abroad on their travels.
  • We believe in working hard and laughing hard. We offer our team a half day off every week to rejuvenate and bring the best version of themselves in the 4.5 day week
  • We prioritize wellbeing and offer employees flexibility with working around appointments or personal commitments (within reason). We offer access to wellbeing coaches and counsellors via an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • As an early stage company, ensuring every team member is motivated to deliver on our big vision is important. We offer employee share option plans (ESOP) to incentivize long term impact and contribution
  • Workplace giving. We support donations to your charity of choice via your pre-tax salary
  • To encourage self-organized social activities, each team member receives an annual budget of $250 to spend on activities of their choice (as long as they do it with at least 1 team member). We call this #MDFuns
