When was the moment you fell in love with Mass Spectrometry?
I trained as a protein biochemist in India and after coming to the United States, the first day of my postdoctoral research started by learning mass spectrometry. As the days passed, I began to realise how much I had fallen in love with mass spectrometry and that became my field of expertise.
What is the best thing that could happen to the field of Mass Spectrometry in 5 years?
Mass spectrometry-based single-cell proteomics is the reality now and will potentially transform and advance precision medicine research.
What has been the proudest moment in your life science career?
Out of many, I would pick the most recent one when I started doing single-cell proteomics, one cell at a time! It’s fascinating to see how an individual cell behaves by changing its protein expression. I feel proud to advance the basic biomedical research by developing mass spectrometry-based single-cell proteomics workflows.
