Analytics and Mass Spectrometry Expert at Polpharma Biologics

When was the moment you fell in love with Mass Spectrometry?

During my master thesis when I was working on immunosuppressive peptides. It was pretty unusual because I started on the new, ultra-high-resolution, ion-cyclotron resonance spectrometer. I was totally fascinated with ionization fragmentation and analysis of my peptides. It was a fantastic moment and I realized Mass Spec is the field I wanted to further explore and make my future with.

What is the best thing that could happen to the field of Mass Spectrometry in 5 years?

AI methods like ML and DL will be widely applied in many applications of MS. Especially data analysis where AI has started to be implemented. I see the trend growing fast very soon. In terms of hardware; developments for scanning speed and new data acquisition strategies.

What has been the proudest moment in your life science career?

During my Ph.D. when I figured out the structure and linkage of a subtype of Enterobacterial Common Antigen, which was a mystery for over 40 years, makes me very proud. I used some analytical techniques including MS and NMR spectroscopy. The final success was a great feeling!
